I've decided to have a bit of a rethink of this website...

As the only bit I ever really update is the blog, I've moved the blog to the main page, and while I was at it ditched a load of the pages that nobody ever visited. For now that includes the bike routes map page, but I plan to bring that back in a more usable form at some point pretty soon.

I am also planning some design and layout changes but what they'll be and when is all still rather up in the air. I'm more of a coder that designer so I'm still trying to work out where I want to go.

Rutland Struggle
Sunday, March 29, 2009 20:35

I've been ill for the last week or so with nasty cold so I've not been riding since Cannock a fortnight ago. I spent most of last weekend shivering under a duvet on the sofa while Mi complained about how hot the house was.

This morning I felt well enough to attempt a bike ride so I headed across to Rutland Water and met up with Andy. In retrospect it may have been a mistake. After just a mile my lungs were burning and muscles aching as I struggled to breathe through my bunged up head.

The other problem was midges. They were everywhere - hovering at head height across the path and roads around the reservoir. Still, they saved stopping for lunch as it was near impossible to ride through the swarms without inhaling at least a couple of the little buggers.

I think my body was still suffering from the cold of last week... Rutland isn't that hard a ride, but even after a long soak in Radox I'm still aching like anything...

Retro Gaming In Your Pocket
Thursday, March 26, 2009 23:26

Face to face with a guardToday was a glorious day in the world of retro gaming. Wolfenstein 3D - the original 3d first person shooter - was released for the iPhone.

18 years on from it's first appearance as a DOS game John Carmack, the games original author, has reworked the game that started the whole '3d maze full of monsters' genre for the modern day, and for £2.99 (or free if you are a registered iphone developer and have access to the SDK as the game is open source) it's a bargain.

This takes me of many a happy hour spent running round shooting Nazis, struggling for a decent frame rate on my 386 PC.

Better still, there are rumours of an iPhone version of Doom in the pipeline... :D

Double Dog

This weekend I spent most of my time at Cannock Chase...

I was there on Saturday with Andy, and then on Sunday with John.

Both rides were great fun and a good shakedown test for my new bike. After the puncture and chain break I was very happy to manage two rides in a row with nothing breaking.

On Sunday I had a play with the video recording feature on my camera...

New Bike - Third Ride - Broken Chain!
Thursday, March 12, 2009 21:36

Broken linkWent out for an after work ride with Andy this evening and didn't get very far...

About 2.5 miles in my chain snapped and I couldn't fix it, so instead of a 10 mile ride we ended up with a 2.5 mile walk back to work :(

I've only ridden a total of about 24 miles on my new bike and I'm sure chains should last longer than that...

Walking pushing a broken bike has to be one of the most tedious things you can do...
