Return To The Forbidden Forest
Tuesday, May 08, 2007 13:15

Went for another ride at Sherwood Forest yesterday with Tim.

The weather forecast was for rain, but apart from the odd spot of drizzle the afternoon stayed nice and dry.

This time we stayed away from the "official" cycle routes and just headed off into the trees.

We found some very cool little tracks, including one little track through a huge patch of dead trees.

It was pretty spooky in there... deathly quiet other than the crunch of needles under the wheels, and not a hint of green - Just dead pine trees as far as you could see in all directions.

It reminded me a lot of forbidden forests and dead planets from sci-fi films I've seen.

Distance11.6 miles
Time1 hour 26 minutes
Max Speed23.3mph
Average Speed8.1mph

Double puncture repair
Sunday, May 06, 2007 18:40

Went to go out for a ride today only to find two flat tyres...

I knew my front tyre was probably leaking as it went down on Wednesday evenings ride around Loughborough after repairing a hole I found before that. I wasn't expecting the back tyre to be flat as well though!

The front tyre was another small hole near where I had already applied a patch on Wednesday, so rather than have two patches near each other I decided the inner tube was a write off and fitted a new inner tube at the front.

I also managed to locate the offending sharp bits in the tyre itself - turns out some of the thorn from my first puncture was still stuck in the tyre. While not big enough to actually puncture the tyre in themselves, the miles since had let them rub two holes in the tyre.

The problem in the back tyre was harder to find... I pumped it up but still couldn't locate hole, so in the end I resorted to the old fashioned bowl of water, and it soon became obvious where the hole was...

One repair patch later and it no longer produces bubbles, so we'll see how it stays up.

We've seen the animals at the zoo...

Miranda's mum and dad came up on Friday night, and with them came trouble in the form of nieces!

It was the first time they had been to our house in quite a long time, so we decided to take them to Twycross Zoo for the day as they hadn't been before.

Eloise's favourite animals were the Giraffes.
Alicia's favourites were the Chimpanzees.
Miranda's favourites were the Elephants.
And my favourites were the Leopards.

The penguins were unanimously voted "dullest animal" by everybody...
